Our advocates are committed to human justice.
Eva Buzo
Eva Buzo is an Australian barrister and human rights advocate driven by a profound dedication to supporting victims of atrocities. As the Founder and Executive Director of hūmānus (formerly Victim Advocates International), she empowers survivors of genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity to seek justice through international and domestic legal mechanisms.
Admitted as a solicitor in 2017 and called to the New South Wales Bar in 2020, Eva’s legal practice encompasses criminal, administrative, and human rights law, with a specialisation in international criminal law and protection matters, particularly sexual and gender-based violence and crimes against children. Recognised as an expert on the Justice Rapid Response roster for international investigations, her experience includes impactful work with organisations such as World Vision, Save the Children, and BRAC across East Africa, South Asia, and Australia.
Her expertise is further recognised through her membership on several key committees and rosters, including the NSW International Humanitarian Law Advisory Committee of the Australian Red Cross and the NSW Bar Association Human Rights Committee. She also serves on the NSW Legal Aid panel for summary crime.
Eva’s commitment extends beyond the courtroom. An accomplished ultra-marathon swimmer, she holds records in the English Channel and, in August 2024, became the first woman to conquer the 92-kilometer Strait of Otranto swim from Italy to Albania in approximately 35 hours – a feat undertaken in honour of her Albanian grandfather. From 2025 Eva is leading the Forces of Inspiration campaign in partnership with Open Society Foundations and civil society groups in Latin America which brings international sporting events to underserved communities.
Eva’s strong academic foundation includes a Juris Doctor with Honours in International Criminal Law and Human Rights Law from The Australian National University, a Bachelor of Arts (BA) with Honours in Politics and International Relations from UNSW, and a Master of Arts (MA) in Peace and Security Studies from the University of Hamburg.
